Slingshot Broadband

slingshot broadband nz

From the start, Slingshot has been challenging the telco industry and fighting to give New Zealand families better value broadband, supported by amazing service.

Slingshot NZ know that in the modern world, it is crucial to stay online, but they also know how confusing it might be to get online. They have worked hard to make Slingshot easy, affordable and hassle-free – because this guys know you have other important things to do and spend your time on than sorting your internet.

They are dedicated to making broadband simple, affordable, easy to use, and cover the needs of a modern family – whether they are intensely streaming videos, gaming all day, or just spending their time on Facebook.

Slingshot broadband is part of the Vocus Group of companies.

Slingshot Broadband offer ultrafast Fibre & Naked Broadband Plans for New Zealand.

They have a range of different broadband plans available. Some of their broadband plans include a home phone line whilst other broadband plans are like Naked Broadband and don't have a home telephone line.

The type of broadband connection you can get depends on your address and area. They offer all types of broadband connection, Fibre, VDSL and ADSL dependant on what is available in your broadband region.

Slingshot, owned by 2degrees who in turn is owned by Voyage Australia Pty Limited, and they are owned by Vocus Group Ltd (formerly Vocus communications) who is owned by a consortium of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) Australia. The latter an Australian Infrastructure Investment Group.
I believe they also piggy back Amazon Networks infrastructure as well.
So, comparing 2degrees with Slingshot seems to result in the same bad customer service reviews and sometimes dodgy network connections.
I.e. Packet loss and lower speeds than advertised.
When connecting to many Australian businesses I had found a lot of connections also seem to be getting re-routed overseas to America before coming back to the Australian company and then onto NZ.
A result of their contracts that they have secured within other countries for connections perhaps? The business connection with Amazon Networks?
So I guess the above mentioned ownership probably explains why the two companies have similar performances and bad reviews. They are owned by the same parent company. :-/

Pros
For the most part the connection functions. Not at full speed, but at around 80% of the given 300mbps paid for.
Cons
Customer service is so so. Off shore as far as I can tell.

Average speeds and reliability.
Pros
Good customer helpline.
Cons
Extremely expensive termination fee, and they blocked access to the router settings so that I can't change them. Average speeds and reliability.

Dont waste your time considering Slingshot as a internet provider, you may save a dollar with a good promotion but they will find the way to rip you off later on. E.g.: disconnection charges, claiming for the return of a modem that wasnt theirs, sneding out 2 wrong invoices after cancellation date was passed, taking months to return the money they have wrongly charge you, customer service is the worst of its kind!
