Different Fibre Speeds in New Zealand

Fibre 50: This is the first tier of fibre, and it is a great choice for smaller households of one to two people. Coming with a speed of 50/ 100 Mbps, it is the perfect speed for those who only use the internet for scrolling social media, using email, online banking and shopping, and basic video streaming. Fibre plans of this speed are generally cheaper, and will therefore save you money by ensuring you aren’t paying for more than you need. But there is no compromising on internet quality!

Fibre 300: A lot faster than the first option, fibre 300 is great for larger households of four or more, and/ or those who have a lot of devices connected to the internet at the same time. For example, if you have people working from home, video streaming, and running social media, you may benefit from this faster internet connection. Avoid the frustrations of buffering and interruptions, but save money on even faster speeds, that just aren’t necessary!

Fibre 900: Do you have a large household that uses a lot of internet? And we mean a lot. If you have people who work from home and lots of gamers, it may be worth considering this option. Here at Broadband Compare, we want to ensure Kiwis aren’t paying for something they don’t need. Therefore, we would only recommend this option to households that use a lot of data because of its higher price point.

Hyperfibre: Gamers are excited about this new generation of fibre. No doubt destined to become the future of fibre, hyperfibre is ultra fast, delivering unbelievable speeds and capacity. It is definitely not necessary for everyone. It’s only really ideal for large households of lots of games who have wired gaming consoles. For gamers and creative professionals who will be downloading large 4K files, this may be worth considering. But it does come with a large cost
